Stranded

My two vehicles are on their last leg....er, wheel.

Our Honda Civic wouldn't start yesterday, and as we were in the process of trying to figure out what was wrong with it, the battery died.  So cleverly, I took the battery from our Plymouth Voyager Van to run a quick test with the Honda.

When I put the battery back in the Van, it was also now dead.  To "jump" start the battery, I now needed to find a way to move the Van, since, you know, the Honda was also...uh, dead.  And in the way.

That's when I had to sit down and have some tea.  While sitting there, I took these photos.

What followed was an interesting adventure:

  • I put the van in "neutral" and backed out of the drive way.
  • A friend "jumped" the battery for us, and I took the Van to an auto parts store to rent a "diagnostic" tool for the Honda.
  • The battery died while I was at the auto parts store.
  • A stranger offered to give us a "jump" and we were on our way again.
  • As I approached our neighborhood, I thought, "Maybe I should drive around a bit to recharge the battery."
  • About 4 or 5 blocks from our house, the Van died again.
  • I knocked on the door of a neighbor I've never met and asked for a "jump."
  • This nice man named Jerry gave our Van a "jump" and offered to follow us home.
  • I drove the Van back to the house and it died again in the driveway.
  • I introduced Leona to Jerry, thanked him and told him he was an answer to prayer.
  • As I walked back up the drive way, the truth dawned on me.
  • In an effort to figure out what was wrong with the Honda, the Plymouth's battery made the ultimate sacrifice.
  • That battery's not holding a charge, now.

And now we are stranded.
