Fried Pickles From Our "Test Kitchen"

Found the recipe for Fried Pickles here and my lovely wife, Leona cooked them up.

Tasty stuff, but if you consume too many of these bad boys, they'll kill you. :)

4 photos - Volunteers for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

More images from the "Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition" happening in the Alliance, Texas area:

Volunteers' cars parked in a field, the demolition(?) team running while the camera follows on a crane, and one of the several tents for media, volunteers, etc.

I am taking these photos on the way back from taking and picking up kids from school, and trying to respect the security boundaries.  Some of them are a little blurry because I am taking them from a distance...

3 Photos - Extreme Makeover Home Edition in the Alliance, Texas Area

"ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition" is in the Alliance, Texas area about half a block from Leona's School this week.  The roads have been blocked off around the site, causing me to make a couple of detours this morning as I was taking Michael to school.

Not much to see here, yet, and I had to take them from quite a distance.  However, you can at least see the "limo" that I assume will be taking the family away on some nice vacation for the week.

All of the details can be found at this site: http://www.extreme.wall.com

Why I'm Not Eating Oatmeal This Morning:

Because Leona's home, today!

Leona's spontaneously designed "unfolded" omelet this morning:

Leftover taco fixin's (black beans, onions, tomatoes),  Eggs, Cheese, a touch of garlic and toast w/ jelly = happy tummy.

And Then...An Epiphany.

And then...an Epiphany.  (Insert "angelic choir/heavenly beam of light" sound here.)

And there was much rejoicing.

Coffee Hammer Grinder

What a desperate man does when all he has is coffee beans & the grinder breaks down. :)

Oatmeal & Reese's Experiment

After adding a little butter and sugar then mixing it up, it was pretty tasty!

And yes, I know that the candy & sugar offsets the health benefits of the oatmeal. But hey, the "butter" was actually a yogurt spread (Brommel & Brown)!

Images From Celebrate Roanoke

A few images from our evening at the "Celebrate Roanoke 2008" event in Roanoke, Texas.

On the shuttle from the parking lot, Leona's Dad caused the driver to chuckle incessantly because of the following exchange:

Leona's Dad:  What's this thing called again?
Us: Celebrate Roanoke.
Leona's Dad: (Not hearing clearly) Celebrate Growing Up?
Us:  Roanoke!
Shuttle Driver: Incessant Chuckling

Michael tried the rock climbing wall and Melissa and her Uncle James engaged in an "inflatable" jousting match. We rode the little train. Then the cool breeze and fireworks near the end wrapped up a really nice October night...
